Ayahuasca, the sacred brew

Ayahuasca, the sacred brew

Ayahuasca is a sacred brew employed for divinatory and healing rites in the Amazon jungle by the tribe of the Amerindians of Amazonia Colombia, a specific region in the Amazon. A number of plants go into the infusion or decoction, and it used for the purposes of opening up the divine eye to see the world in a way that is helped along by the psychoactive aspect of the plant. Without this kind of in-depth look into the world, many Native Americans would not be as spiritual as they are, or regarded as such.
This is a religious sacrament. People who are associated with using it are often given the description of a Ayahuasca shaman, as they practice Ayahuasca shamanism. The peoples of the Urarina and Peruvian Amazonia practice this religion, and it is a part of their indigenous culture to partake of psychoactive plant concoctions like this. There is a religion that is devoted to its use exclusively, and that is the religion of Santo Daime.
There are even medicinal properties of Ayahuasca. It has a purgative role in the human system that causes harsh vomiting and some diarrhea. It can also get rid of worms and parasites in the body, and the alkaloids are known to be medicinal too in that they kill the parasites. There are several dietary taboos that are attendant upon the use of Ayahuasca, and those include the ridding of several foods and food substances from the human diet like fat, salt, caffeine, acidic foods, and even the practice of sex before consuming it. These taboos are akin to the religious sacraments that accompany fasting in the Christian church. The first missionaries to Native America encountered Ayahuasca and wrote about it, but it didn't enter popular European tradition or culture until much later. The Roman Catholic Church attempted to stamp it out because it was labeled demonic by them in a rousing of fear and suspicion that riled the native Indians against the Catholic church. Some groups in the United States have worked with groups in the Amazon to form associations, and they invite attendees to come join because it can be used to heal mental and physical illnesses. There are several churches that are incorporating it into their use.
